How's My Driving?

Characters can be tricky things-so if you think I'm doing something right or wrong, I'd love to know.

Mir can violate people on a couple of levels-she has no problem with using deadly force and killing, she can and will steal any body that is available-though available means 'is connected to Ar Tonelico and has security flaws she can exploit' so that's basically just Shurelia and Aurica. And on top of all that, she's a born hacker, getting in and out of systems like a salmon moves upstream, leaping firewalls and evading bears. Even an active and aware sysadmin can't stop her without shutting down the whole system.

So! By Default, Mir will operate on the assumption that she cannot kill characters, cannot steal their bodies, but can-within reason-hack anything on the network and read your secrets or your fanfiction. If you want to deal with Non-default permissions, comment here!

Referred by: Floogy and Fennel
Other characters: N/A

Character Name:Mir
Series: Ar Tonelico
Game transferring from:Planeocracy→ Netherworld academy (has been in several other unconnected games, but this is the CR path I want to preserve.)
Canon Point in previous game: Endgame, Maxed Cosmosphere, Jacqli ending,
Summary/History: Ar Tonelico Wiki
Changes in character from previous game: Nothing worth noting-382 year old women are very set in their ways.
Personality:Mir is a complex character who can be summarized in one sentence-she both hates and loves with a fearsome and secret intensity. Few suspected the depth of her love for humanity, and when that love soured, none realized the depths of her hate. She also conceals much else-guilt, self-hatred, concern for others-all these feelings are hidden behind masks of sarcasm and detachment, her own feelings hidden even from her own conscious mind. This has changed somewhat recently and she has begun to open up-showing concern for others, and even affection and taking the decision to even love again. Her circle of friends is small but widening. She has even taken an apprentice of sorts, though she promptly sent the kid away with an important mission. And when it comes to her principles- things like freedom of thought, freedom from pain and suffering, freedom from enslavement and subjugation of any kind-she is extraordinarily passionate. That passion is hard to detect at times, but is an ever present aspect of her character.

Despite this, Mir remains a difficult and prickly person to approach. She is very arrogant, very prideful, and prejudiced towards humans. Her anger and her fury was once focused into a genocial scalpel that tore through the guilty and innocent with equal fury, and she can still summon that terrifying intensity today. On the battlefield she ruthlessly exploits weakness and attacks with all her strength, reacting to changes in strategy faster than most can follow. This is partly due to her nature as a military battle-cyborg from a post-magitech society, but also due to her sheer agility of mind. Mir is able to routinely out think enemies she can't outfight, innovating new tactics on the fly so quickly that she turns inside their OODA loop. Baffled by seemingly chaotic shifts in tactics, most opponents crumble under her assault. Her social interactions are also based on the same theory-baffling people until they give her what she desires, shifting tactics and exploiting everything from sexuality to intellectual curiosity. This is somewhat less successful a tactic, since it makes her seem untrustworthy and duplicitous, something that makes it harder for her to work with people long term.

Mir is also a deep and secret romantic side-most commonly expressed in her choice of media. She loves romance novels and Visual Novels, up to and including the virtual reality incarnations she creates inside her own cosmosphere, in an echo of the Binary Field games played by the origins. She has a fondness of books of all kinds though, and kept many in her house in Metafallas-and then broke off everything and left the party when those books were threatened. She also enjoys long baths, both solo and with other people-in fact, she might even ask others to join her in the bath as a bond of friendship. Or perhaps...skinship? Nah, she doesn't go in for those sort of antics. But she's such a tease, she might suggests she's up for it-and such a embarrassed flake that anyone who accepts might have to deal with her speedy exit.

Rare are those who have her true respect-but for those who can get past the outer layers of sarcasm, biting wit and outright trollishness, there is a heart of pure helpful desire. Cursed to be born into a dying world, Mir fights more than anyone else to set it right. Her actions are focused on the big picture-she cannot be careful of the feelings of others when the fate of worlds are on the line. And her status as an Enforcer in Confuto Ordinato means that more often than not, she finds herself in that exact situation. Still, she has a tender spot for a few people-especially a certain young dragoness.

Powers/Abilities: Song Magic: By singing and connecting to the Tower of Ar Tonelico Mir can use a wide variety of magic, ranging in power from merely impressive to apocalyptic. Her highest tier spell, EXEC_Phatasmagoria, and is approximately equal in power to a small nuclear bomb (the development of Reyvateils made ICBMs obsolete on her world). She also has a variety of healing and protective spells, though she favors leading with an attack, and not warning people first.

Reyvateil β: Mir is not human, not by half. In fact, her biology is composed of magical nanites in a solution of salt water, which gives her some unusual properties. In short however, she is resistant to a shocking amount of damage (stabbing her in the heart won't kill her, but gross trauma can destroy her body if it reaches a critical threshold) and she will instantly die if she ever fails a 'keep alive' checksum to Ar Tonelico. This check is preformed every six hours.

Genius tactician: This goes here because it synergyises with her magic-Mir is an excellent tactician, but has little patcience for the human elements of command. As a result, she normally commands only her own summoned monsters.

Crafting: Mir can craft a broad spectrum of items, including food, armor and weapons, medicine and poisons, high tech computers, and bombs. She requires a supply of raw material, but can use basic things like monster parts and metal ores to build up progressively towards legendary weapons and armor. This is partly thanks to her magic, and partly thanks to her own skills as an artisan-though magic frequently does the heavy lifting, such as when she makes rice-flavored ice cream or other nonsense.

Synchrnoity Chain: Mir can use her most powerful magic only in combination with other spellcasters-and only those she has formed an already tight bond with. Harmonizing their magic, Mir draws on the other mage's reserves for increased power.
Items on your character: Harmobody Suit- armored jumpsuit that increases magical power, and makes you look like a stripper. Actually light power-armor.

Pure Ritual. A white dress suitable for an innocent girl. Has no magical properties.

Fake Uzis – These fake SMGs are used for cosplay and bluffing people.

Hacked Confuto Ordinato PDA - An advanced PDA that... is only useful for its radar function without a connection to the CO central computer. Jacqli has jailbroken hers and uses several undocumented features, and can improvise a charging device. It's still not much use, but at least she can recharge it and play games.

Characters you have in the game: Rozalin, Jebediah Kerman

Character Name: Project Mir/Mariya X/Miwa Togasaki (Alias)
Character Canon: Ar Tonelico
Canon Background: Mir's post on the Ar Tonelico Wiki.

Omegafriends Background: Project Mir, hidden deep within the Soviet space budget, was one of many efforts to create a supersoldier/new Soviet man. Or in this case, a new Soviet Woman. Officially, test subject number 3 was Mariya [redacted], taken as an infant from a government orphanage, and placed in a laboratory, where she would be educated and improved physically and mentally in preparation for her fate. Little was known about Mariya, save for the fact that she was apparently not purely Russian. And what fate did these amoral scientists have for her? One that used up subjects 1, 2, and 4. The first stages, physical and mental preparation, were taxing in the extreme, aiming to produce an ideal athlete and academic in the same package, with tutors teaching her everything from soviet realist art to astrophysics and military strategy. In fact, lots of military strategy was dumped into Mariya's head in an attempt to create the first Command Cyborg to coordinate a new cybernetic military structure, lead by perfect, incorruptible paragons.

Where things went wrong was taking the incorruptible bit a little too far. All the test subjects were subjected to nearly fatal reconditioning and brainwashing, that ultimately reached it's climax in a determined effort to replace the 'emotional' parts of their brains with cybernetic implants that killed off all but one test subject. Perhaps finally understanding and regretting what they had done, the scientists put the finishing touches on Project Mir just before Glasnost shut them down. However, the KGB decided to put Mir on ice, rather than destroy the sole product, no mater how dubious it's value. So they rigged up a cryotube in addition to the crude cybernetics, and froze Mir solid.

For the past 25 years, Mir has slept in ice-but now, she will awaken into a world where the soviet union is dead, and her control codes are in the hands of the most vile of men. Men with the money to buy the forgotten products of a corrupt system. Men like Lord Titan, who will very shortly be using those implanted control codes to take command of Project Mir, Control Unit-001.

Affiliation: Villain minion/ independent. Mir will have an intro plot where she's a baddie, then switch teams when finally defeated. Sort of. First, she'll need to screw her head back on, and maybe dig out some of her cybernetics to gain control of her own brain again.

Personality: Project Mir is extremely cold and emotionless-her cranial implants restrict her emotional range, and she has little sign of any personality. That said, only a fool would underrate her willpower-Mir held together by sheer force of will when all the other nigh-superhuman test subjects broke. Once she has set her mind on a thing, Mir proceeds to accomplish it with a mix of brute force and subtle cunning that is hard to match. She's especially good at out-thinking her opponents-completing the OODA loop faster than they can, and reacting faster as a result to changes in conditions. By the time an opponent realizes what Mir has done, she's already anticipated their reaction. This is less effective against true speedsters or really weird people, but it generally serves her well. When restrained by her implants, she remains willful, and like a sullen robot, will interpret orders to the detriment of her commander if she doesn't like them.

That being said, when the helmet comes off, she will demonstrate a cool, though occasionally affectionate personality. Once broken free of such restraints she's much more expressive, though no less potent and willful. Able to make her own decisions she might be paralyzed by that very ability to decide for a short period, before taking charge of her life with both hands. Having lost 25 years, she'll be eager to catch up and learn more about the real world-and connect with it. She only knows about America from books after all. She only knows about the SOVIET UNION from books and the inside of one lab stuffed full of KGB-wannabees.

She is heavily invested in Justice for the poor and downtrodden, and will lend her aid to causes, donate money to the homeless, and generally cares especially for the working class. A Soviet upbringing and Marxist-Leninist ideology however, leave her rather less sympathetic for the upper classes and the owners of the means of production. Rich characters beware, Mir will strike a blow for global communism! Just as soon as she figures out the impacts of the end of the cold war and the failure of Marxist-Leninist thought. That does rather spoil the whole thing, and leaves her rather...adrift ideologically. When the USSR is dead, someone conditioned and trained to be it's perfect warrior is less than useful. Surprisingly however, Mir does value individual freedom-perhaps because, thanks to her implants, she understands what it's like to lack it. Or maybe she's rejecting the principles of those who made her so horribly.

Mir isn't malevolent-but she does sometimes actively snark so hard at people that she can feel malevolent. Partly, this is due to a lack of socialization-Mir lacks reference for normal human interaction, but the rest of it is that she simply doesn't care about the impression she makes. She is much more at home among books than among people, and her knowledge tilts more towards the theoretical than the practical-she might, for instance, attempt to top a burger with soda, if told that the two are often served together. She favors logical intellectualism over emotion, despite the fact that her Song Core is driven by emotion, and actually amps up her power when he grows increasingly passionate-angry, happy, lovey, whatever strong emotion she feels can power her abilities.

Powers: Mir has been revised majorly from her canon, though she retains some major musical themed powers, having been revamped as a music-powered cyborg. Like Lori Hamilton, she has a Song Core-but hers is configured differently, giving her expanded capabilities-and she's been trained in how to properly use it. Mir's effects are directed primarily through her voice, though she can also use speakers, instruments and amplifiers that are attached to her cyborg implants, she doesn't need them as much as some others. Her healing, buffs and destructive effects are all much more powerful than Lori's but this comes at a cost of physical strength and dexterity-Mir has been on ice for decades and the resulting cellular atrophy has greatly weakened her. Mir also has a number of cranial implants, that, when removed and upgraded to take out the old and nearly impossible to service crude USSR hardware, will be able to increase her already formidable information processing capabilities.

Mir also has a limited ability to use Mind Control, though this generally requires an opening of some sort or another. Typically, those affected by this ability are either zombiefied, or have their personalities altered slightly to make them eager accomplices. Mir is able to do this more easily with robots and cyborgs, but given an 'in' can manage it with nearly anything.

Sample: Tagging Lori on the testrun meme.

Notes: Thanks to the use of Russian Mysticism in her creation, Mir may have some additional aptitude for magic. Mir's costumes have also been upgraded to loose some of the major cut-outs.

[It is one thing to be trapped, unable to move, and locked in place in crystal for centuries.

It is quite another to be suddenly aware of it, awake but unable to move, your consciousness shoved back into the body that it once called home. A relief at first perhaps.

But after 36 hours, unable to move, Mir is starting to crack up.]

If I read one more post about how wonderful it is to be awake right now, I will commit murder, I swear.
